Asana Werkstatt: Basic Postures – Folding & Unfolding

Our bodies have a few basic ways how the fold, unfold and bind. Once you start looking at the most basic postures you can develop an understanding for a big number of folded and bound postures. Basic postures are the tool of choice to identify weak spots, to understand basic joint rotations and to develop an eye for form.

Every posture is set up by using the body’s own proportions and not by external measure. When you start to apply the measure from those basic postures as a blueprint for any given posture you can always create a relationship from small to big.

Asana Werkstatt: Standing Postures

Asanas offer the possibility to open and strengthen the body in a systematic way. Good form results in symmetry and balance. Every posture represents the polarity between ease and groundedness which is manifested by opposing spiraling patterns. Spirals are balance in motion. Every action needs a counter-action. We are all different. So are our bodies. Partner up and learn how to work with different body types in order to support their individual asana practice.

Both workshops will include some hands-on work so it’s suitable for practicioners as well as teachers.

Janosch’s yoga journey began with a climbing accident that resulted in a broken elbow. what started as an experiment for recovery turned out to be a life changing experience.
Ron Steiner drew him to the practice in the first place. His modifcations and and understanding of balancing dynamics which are rooted in his deep knowledge as a medical doctor set a solid foundation for Janosch’s self-practice.
Janosch is deeply inspired by David Regelin’s organic approach to root postures, how to body folds and unfolds by fitting parts together.
In Mysore, practicing with Chidananda and his venerable Father Venkateshaiah, Janosch deepened his practice during two stays.
His teaching is characterized by individual adjustments and sensible modifications that allow the students to proceed at their own speed according to their abilities.
